(Bill W) February 3, 2012 – The Midwest Open Wheel Association (MOWA) is pumped to announce the addition of a pair of big races for the 2012 season that memorializes two legends of the sport! The First Annual Mary Lee Standridge Memorial will be run at the Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois on Friday, July 27. In addition, the series will make its first foray into the great state of Indiana when it honors the late Earl Gaerte at the Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth on Saturday, September 1!
The Mary Lee Standridge Memorial Race will be sponsored by the Terril Company and will play host to both the MOWA sprint cars and the late models on July 27 during Illinois Sprintweek. The matriarch of the famous Standridge family, Mary Lee was a racetrack scorer and official for over 30 years. She was inducted into the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame in 2004, and in 1988, received the USAC Diana Gilmore Woman Behind the Scenes Award.
The Earl Gaerte Memorial at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Indiana will host the MOWA sprint cars on Saturday, September 1. Gaerte is best known for his engine building prowess at Gaerte Engines, and he will not be forgotten for the way he treated his customers with care and support.
