After much discussion and deliberation, the Midwest Open Wheel Association in consultation with Fayette County Speedway has elected to cancel the race tentatively scheduled as a make-up on October 22nd. Both sides made every effort possible to reschedule the race from May 27 where rain forced the cancellation of the feature event. Due to commitments at other tracks on Fridays, we were unable to re-schedule during the normal racing season.

We discussed and tentatively announced plans to make-up the feature and a full additional night of racing on Saturday October 22nd. Everyone was aware that weather that late in October would make the event questionable. Over the past week MOWA has discussed this tentative date with our member drivers and learned that many of the participants scheduled to start the make-up feature won’t be able to do so because of either equipment problems that have ended their seasons early or schedule conflicts. In addition to the make-up feature, fielding a full field of cars for the additional program on that date was going to be difficult that late in the year.

MOWA prides itself in ensuring that at every event fans can confidently know that an full and competitive field of cars will be on hand. Our extraordinary car count over the course of the year has proven to be one of our greatest assets. We stay in close contact with our member drivers to know in advance which drivers will attend each event. We have many times discussed among our membership that if we ever had an event scheduled where we knew fans would be disappointed in the number of cars in attendance we would cancel the race instead of giving our loyal fans less than they bargained for at the ticket window.

Fayette County Speedway has agreed to attempt to schedule a double feature night early in the 2012 season so that we can give the sprint car fans in and around Brownstown something extra special when we return. We will be working on those details over the winter.

Member drivers will be awarded show-up points, any heat points earned, and 41 points for finishing position for the Brownstown event. Any drivers with questions about payout should contact a MOWA board member or contact us at mowasprints@gmail.com
